His main weakness is not knowing most of the new Pokés from Hoenn and Sinnou. [knowledge is power, right?] His knowledge is mainly limited to Kanto and Johto region and many times, he wings his battles based on guessing what sort of Pokés his opponent has.

He likes to see how big the world is, so he goes around and challenges as many people as possible with only a party of three. This is so that he can learn from his mistakes and so that he can capture more Pokés to complete his Pokedex, which the Professors keep updating before he finishes.

The reason for his bright red shorts/shoes are that he wants to "look special and feel special" so the bright red sets him apart. That, and perhaps because a certain Poké ate his blue-black shorts. He doesn't wear socks because he reasons that if he doesn't have any, they won't get wet. He also believes in wearing huge goggles to keep the rain/wind off of his eyes. They are tinted for the sun as well. Multipurposefulness~!
